  • What does STAC do for the SciTech Regional Program?
    The SciTech Activity Committee is a student-led committee that features the SciTech Regional program at Chinguacousy Secondary School and around the community. The committee organizes events that are of interest to students and promote the SciTech Regional program to future students.
  • How do I apply to be a part of the SciTech North Regional program?
    All regional program applications are only accessible on the Peel District School Board website under the Regional Programs. Please read about the application and screening process from the Peel District School Board site or directly from Chinguacousy Secondary School’s website under the SciTech North tab.
  • What can students expect after enrolling in the SciTech Program?
    Students in this program are immersed in collaborative work and critical thinking while having augmented access to advanced technology. The program's curriculum is delivered through contextualized real-world projects which span across the science and technological subject areas. They will experience how global issues can be solved with the STEM academic platform. Students will develop technological knowledge and gain extensive critical thinking, collaboration, communication and leadership skills.
  • How is SciTech different from regular highschool?
    The SciTech program focuses on the science and technology subject areas. Students use their theoretical knowledge learned in science courses and apply it to their practical projects in technological courses. Additionally, students explore their own areas of interest by building and experimenting, and are provided with high tech facilities.
  • How will this help me get into the workplace/apprenticeship/college/ university?
    The SciTech program prepares students for any academic pathway that they choose by challenging them to think outside of the box and work in a collaborative, innovative and risk taking environment.
  • What careers can I pursue if I join SciTech?
    You can pursue any career of your choice if you join the SciTech Regional Program at Chinguacousy Secondary School. The SciTech Program is central to science and technological subjects which are favourable for careers related to the science and technology fields.
  • How is the SciTech program different from other regional programs?
    The SciTech Regional Program focuses mainly in the science and technological streams unlike other programs which concentrate solely in business, trucking, sports, music or the arts.
  • What is STEAMWorks
    STEAMWorks is an event where you will have the opportunity to attend interactive workshops and challenge yourself with exciting tasks throughout the evening! You will engage in activities where you apply your STEAM knowledge and try to escape the claws of time travel.
  • What will the theme of STEAMWorks be?
    This years theme for STEAMWorks will be announced at the event. Sign up and stay tuned!
  • What will STEAMWorks look like?
    The event will focus on the pillars of STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. You and your teammates will have the chance to apply prior knowledge, and new knowledge attained from the workshops to create solutions and overcome obstacles on your adventure!
  • Is there anything I should do to prepare before the event?
    In terms of preparation, STEAMWorks will focus on the grade 9 curriculum. Any new concepts will be explained to you through the workshops and you will receive resources to help you during the event.
  • Who can attend STEAMWorks?
    Anyone in Grade 9 or 10 attending Chinguacousy Secondary School can participate! Note: You don't have to be part of the Sci-Tech Regional Program to be part of the event.
  • When will STEAMWorks be?
    Join this adventure with your friends on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 from 2:45 PM to 9 PM. Dinner and snacks will be provided!
  • How is STEAMWorks beneficial for me?
    Exciting STEAM challenges + learning experiences, an opportunity to meet new people, and PRIZES! Sign me up, please! (Trust us, this isn’t an event you want to miss!)
  • How will STEAMWorks be different this year?
    This year STEAMWorks will be back in-person! You will have the opportunity to connect with your peers in an exciting learning environment. You will be able to attend workshops and challenge yourself along with your team in a series of fun STEAM-based activities!
  • Will I win any prizes?
    We will be giving away $2000 worth of prizes! Actively participating during the workshops and showing your skills during the challenges could earn you the title of the top winning team!
  • How do I register and when do registrations close?
    Registration for STEAMWorks will open soon! Registrations will close on May 29th at 11:59 P.M. We are accepting 120 applicants, and registration works on a first come first serve basis, so get your responses in quick!
  • What if I don’t have a team?
    You can always look for fellow peers at Chinguacousy to join your team. If you do not have a team though, that is completely fine! Our team will be organizing all the participants into teams of five! This will give you a chance to meet new people and network with other students in the Chingaucousy school community.
